The Adelaide Dental Hospital is one of the two major public dental service providers in South Australia. The hospital extends statewide dental services to vulnerable members of the community, particularly those who have limited access to health insurance. The bulk of basic dental work is performed by interns supervised by qualified public health providers, while specialist services are given by visiting specialists, the Adelaide Dental Hospital staff, academic staff of the Dental School and postgraduate students in specialty training program.

The Adelaide Dental Hospital offers a wide range of patient services for children and adult. When a patient is referred from a community dental clinic to Adelaide Dental Hospital, the patients receives the following specialist services:

Adelaide Dental Hospital Services

• Tooth extraction
• Corrective surgery of the mouth and jaws
• Orthodontics or treatment of misaligned teeth and jaws or improper bite
• Root canal procedure
• Treatment of gum diseases
• Removal of dentures
• Alignment of crows and bridges
• General dental care such as check-ups, cleanings, fillings and simple tooth removal

As mentioned, general dental services are normally performed by interns from the Dental School. With funding from the Gillard and Commonwealth Governments, the number of interns will increase to 150 over the next three years. The funding allowed construction of a 10-chair teaching dental facility and an additional 52,500 hours of clinical training, spread over five years, for undergraduate dental and oral health students in South Australia. These students will eventually be assigned for internship not only in the Adelaide Dental Hospital but also in community clinics that are also receiving additional funding.

The Minister for Health and Ageing was pleased with this development saying that the government is making it easier for patients to have faster access to broader dental services in Adelaide Dental Hospital and outlying areas, now and in the future. The interns will be coming from the University of Adelaide School of Dentistry, which has seen an increase in the number of students for several years.
Equally important, the government has also expanded dental services not just to Adelaide Dental Hospital but also to rural areas through the construction of an eight-chair training center in Whyalla.

Currently, there are more than 60 dental facilities spread all over South Australia and this funding translates to more doctors and nurses for these clinics and for Adelaide Dental Hospital. With more medical professionals, patients can enjoy more comprehensive basic care, which includes:

Adelaide Dental Hospital Plans

• A dental check-up
• Dental education on oral hygiene and nutrition
• Dental radiology or taking and interpreting X-rays
• Prophylaxis
• Application of fluoride and fissure sealants
• Teeth extraction

The Adelaide Dental Hospital and the Royal Adelaide Hospital have a long history together, and because of this relationship, patients of the latter will have access to on-call services from the former even after hours. This usually applies to patients who require oral or maxillofacial surgery due to injuries sustained from accidents. Additionally, the Adelaide Dental Hospital also accepts referrals from private clinics where facilities are inadequate to address their patients’ needs.

If you have been going on your community forums lately (like I have), you will find some people have been grousing about how hard it is to find a bulk bill dentist Adelaide. Since I had this difficulty too, prior to finding my current bulk bill dentist Adelaide, I thought I’d write this post to provide some assistance. If you would like to learn more about what a bulk bill dentist Adelaide is, keep on reading.

Bulk Bill Dentist Adelaide Tips

A bulk bill dentist Adelaide is a dental practitioner who does not bill clients directly, but instead simply forwards the charges to Medicare (or any other HMO with the same program). This kind of dentist provides just the same kinds of services like any other practitioner, except for the manner by which patients are billed.

When you go into a typical dental clinic to have a procedure, you will be asked to pay a scheduled fee, or the amount of value equivalent to the service you have just agreed to. A scheduled fee comes out of your own pocket although you do have the option to apply for a reimbursement with your insurance provider. It can also be billed directly to your HMO.

With some health coverage programs, a dentist may not charge you the whole amount of the scheduled fee. Instead, you simply pay the gap fee, or the amount that is in excess of the scheduled fee. Since the scheduled fee is determined by government and professional agencies, it is actually an averaged notion of service value, and does not always equal the actual fees charged by a particular dentist. For example, some dentists may choose to charge fees higher than the scheduled fee, thereby resulting in a gap between the scheduled and actual fees. This gap fee is shouldered by a patient, and is not eligible for reimbursement as it is beyond the coverage of the health insurance policy.

Bulk Bill Dentist Adelaide Guide

With a bulk bill dentist Adelaide, you no longer have to pay any gap fees or scheduled fees. Instead, you simply come in and provide your insurance details, have the procedure and get out. The bill is directly sent to the HMO. There is no longer any gap fee, because a bulk bill dentist agrees to only charge the scheduled fee (which is typically only 75-85% of actual service value).

As you can imagine, bulk bill dentist Adelaide are pretty much in demand, as people naturally want to avoid paying money if it can be helped.

Im booked into hospital to have 3 teeth removed by laser the reason for this is I have had oseoporosis so my jaw may get damaged.
The Dental Surgeon who I saw want’s to charge enormous prices.
Whats more he want’s the money a week in advance hell I dont even know how good he is yet.
I have top Hospital benefits going back over 40 years and even they told me some of the things hes asking to do attract no cover it all sound a bit unethical to me.
Soo does any one in Adelaide South Australia know of a GOOD dental surgeon I could get a second opinion from please.
By the way we did the leg work in getting a set of teeth by ourselves they cost so far $1.200 not bad for pensioners.
The surgeon want’s $660 and the aneathesist $450 in advance.
We are still searching for that money tree they seem to think that pensioners are suppose to have

Dental benefits offered by health funds are token only and don’t cover all, or even the best, treatments. To a lesser extent this applies to private health funds and Medicare benefits for medical treatment too.

One year I had $12000 in restorative treatment and got $650 back and I wasn’t ripped off. I knew what was wrong and got several opinions – I had ground all my teeth down to the dentine in my sleep and didn’t realise what was happening because I didn’t go to a Dentist regularly.

There was a Dentist I founfd out several Dentists I knew went to themselves on Kensington Rd near the round about – his name is David Mann. I have been out of Adelaide several years so I am not sure he is still there.

You can tell how good a Dentist is to some extent by how long his waiting time to be seen is. They are used to people refusing to pay after they have had the treatment, that is why they want the money up front.

Two blokes were discussing popular family trends on sex, marriage, and values. Bazza said, "I didn’t sleep with my wife before we got married, Did you?
"Leroy replied, "I’m not sure, what was her maiden name?"
———————————————————-
A little boy went up to his father and asked: "Dad, where did all of my intelligence come from?"
The father replied. "Well son, you must have got it from your mother, ’cause I still have mine."
———————————————————
"Mr. Clark, I have reviewed this case very carefully," the divorce Court Judge said, "And I’ve decided to give your wife $775 a week."
"That’s very fair, your honor," the husband said. "And every now and then I’ll try to send her a dollar or two myself."
———————————————————
A doctor examined a woman, took the husband aside, and said, "Idon’t like the looks of your wife at all."
"Me neither doc," said the husband. "But she’s a great cook and really good with the kids".
———————————————————–
An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years.
The Wizard says, "Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you".
The old man says without hesitation, "I now pronounce you man and wife."
———————————————————-
Two Reasons Why It’s So Hard To Solve A Redneck Murder
1. All the DNA is the same.
2. There are no dental records.
———————————————————-
A blonde calls Virgin Air and asks, "Can you tell me how long it’ll take to fly from Sydney to Adelaide ?"
The agent replies, "Just a minute.."
"Thank you," the blonde says, and hangs up.
———————————————————-
Moe: "My wife got me to believe in religion."
Joe: "Really?"
Moe: "Yeah. Until I married her I didn’t believe in hell."
———————————————————-
A man is recovering from surgery when a nurse asks him how he is feeling. "I’m O. K. but I didn’t like the four-letter-word the doctor used in surgery," he answered.
"What did he say," asked the nurse.
"OOPS"
————————————————————
While shopping for vacation clothes, my husband and I passed a display of bathing suits.
It had been at least ten years and twenty pounds since I had even considered buying a bathing suit, so I sought my husband’s advice.
"What do you think?" I asked. "Should I get a bikini or an all-in-one?"
"Better get a bikini," he replied. "You’d never get it all in one."
He’s still in intensive care.
The blonde joke was the funniest for me

lol..amazing jokes…some seem real incidents..thnx for sharing..heres ur star *

Ive lost my first bill for my first visit but it was about 190 dollars when i first went in and they realised i needed a root canal

2nd visit:
xray $46
prep of root canal – 1 canal $200
prep of root canal – add canal prep of 2nd canal $95
prep of root canal – add canal prep of 2nd canal $95
prep of root canal – add canal prep of 2nd canal $95

amount i paid for for 2nd visit $531 (ive paid this one)

Now this is the rest of the dental plan i get in the mail which i think is a little steep!

Root canal obturation – one canal $205
Root canal obturation – other canal $89
Root canal obturation – other canal $89
Root canal obturation – other canal $89
1 X ray $46

New filling once root canal finished
Preliminary Restoration for crown – direct $131

Protective cap 3 months after root canal finished
Full crown – non metallic – indirect $1260

Total: 1909

so all up this root canal is going to cost about 2630 dollars!!!

Thank you for reading!

So… you’re asking if $2,630 Australian is too much for a root canal.

Yes, it’s substantially cheaper in the US.

When I mean "best", I mean:
- best undergraduate dentistry course
- best postgraduate dentistry course

I am not counting specialisations of dentistry but the "Bachelor of Dentistry", "Bachelor of Dental Surgery", "Bachelor of Dental Science", etc.

The dental schools in Australia are provided by the following tertiary institutions (in 2008):

LaTrobe University
Griffith University
James Cook University
The University of Adelaide
The University of Melbourne
The University of Queensland
The University of Sydney
The University of Western Australia

Please provide a good, coherent reason on your answer.
e.g. University of X’s dental school is the best because it emphasises most on clinical aspects.

Also, I would like YOUR opinion on what constitutes "best". You may also quote from a professional source – actually, that would be more convincing, ain’t it?
First year dental students at the University of Adelaide get around 30 hours of contact per week, 3 of which are clinical.

The University of Melbourne was the first dental school in Australia. I seem to remember that when I was at their open day in 2007, they were very well ranked internationally (maybe third), but I can’t quickly find anything on the internet to back that up.
In terms of research, Melbourne has a very strong program. You may have heard of Recaldent gum and GC Tooth Mousse, two revolutionary products that remineralise enamel. Both of these products were developed at the University of Melbourne.

I know that is not exactly what you are looking for, but it would take a lot of research to compare every school. I’m sure that they are all great schools, but the University of Melbourne carries the most prestige (which doesn’t necessarily make it the best one). Ask a student at each school and I’m sure that they will each say that the program is great.
When researching a school, I’d be asking how many clinical hours you get before graduation (obviously the more the better). Try to get into contact with recent graduates, people who’ve just finished the course will be able to give you the most honest and accurate depiction of the program and also whether they felt that something could have been better (eg. more clinical hours, a better staff to student ratio).

Good luck with selection, I hope you find the right school for you.
